Arthouse Houston is a small, volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to joyously enriching and preserving Houston’s artistic film community and arthouse spaces. Our mission is furthered by improving accessibility to arts and cinema through programming, public outreach, partnerships, and education for the benefit of our vibrant, diverse community. Our programming is designed to bridge global understanding of people and culture through the power of art and film and to build and sustain Houston as a thriving cultural hub for arthouse spaces and film. Some of these programs include:

  • Mobile Movie Palace Events: Free or low-cost arthouse film screenings at various locations across Houston that spotlight local artists and arts organizations, allowing them to perform and share their work.
  • Friends on Film PodcastFriends on Film (and Other Creative Mischief) is a podcast shining a new light on the world of film, the theatres that show them, and the artists and individuals who make it all possible. Each episode features lively discussions spanning the many areas of film, rooted in its history, present state, and future, highlighting local programming and festivals within Houston and the greater state of Texas.
  • Cinema Revival DocumentaryCinema Revival is a feature-length documentary that follows community-led efforts to save Houston’s last historic arthouse cinema —the River Oaks Theatre.

To accomplish these goals, we rely on the continued support of our city and the cultural arts community. This Giving Tuesday, we ask for your donation as we work to bring art and film to historical and non-traditional spaces. We understand that there are many causes worthy of your support, and we appreciate you choosing us.

So for everyone at Arthouse Houston, thank you.
